Agree that for me at least I rarely think the 70 or so shows I saw are "the best." I tend to be in the envious camp of "wish I could have seen" this or that show group...mostly b/c my sincere belief that 1977 was their best year ever was 2 years before I saw my first show.

and to have been at Veneta '72 (w/enough water to keep from passing out) would have been incredible. I love the focus of the artcile, though...for once a journalist is looking at the band from a fan's perspective and getting into the "deep" stuff of levels of fandom, etc., rather than just the usual "the band that defined the 19609's hippie era" surface treatment bullshit.

Hey GC--did you see the PBS special "Summer of Love?" Biased (some real negativity, some of it justified of course), but nice...I can post a link for complete viewing if you like...

Summer of Love a PBS Special — American Experience has some great clips with Joel Selvin. Isn't Mountain Girl in some of these clips? It's better than the History Channel.

still my fav all-time is this totally biased Harry Reasoner piece on YouTube - Hippie Temptation

Yeah, I have seen the special...it's pretty funny.

That Reasoner clip for some reason always reminds me of this skit Monty Python did where Eric Idle is a reporter, walking down the street exactly in the same manner Reasoner is, talking pretentiously about the "Hell's Grannies" gang of old ladies who beat up young men, and then one of them opens a manhole cover and he falls into it.
